Abstract
A human factors analysis of the vehicle steering problem is presented, in which the perceptual variables involved are identified and the wide variation in human gain required for stable steering at all speeds is demonstrated. A velocity-modulated steering system is proposed as a solution to this problem, and the effects of such a system upon steering behavior are examined.
