Abstract

Two WAIS-R short-form procedures were used with 69 subjects referred for evaluations due to slow progress in school. The first procedure, the Satz-Mogel model, was found to be the most effective for predicting the Full-Scale IQ. Using the Verbal IQ or Performance IQ to predict the FSIQ was also useful. The second procedure, using selected five or six subtest combinations, was also helpful in predicting the FSIQ. Using three, two, or one subtest combinations to predict the FSIQ was not recommended. Predicting the VIQ or IQ using short forms was also not recommended. Any short-form procedure should be used only as a gross estimate of ability and not for diagnostic or placement purposes.
