Abstract
Four new measures of multidimensional profile dissimilarity are proposed that are (1) either sym metric or asymmetric and (2) either conditional or unconditional on profile shape. The four similarity indices are based on alternative normalizations of the regular distance (D) statistic of Cronbach and Gleser (1953), all taking values between 0 and 1. Methods of calculation and interpretations of the indices are demonstrated and discussed, and sev eral generalizations are suggested.
