Abstract
Short-term and time-limited treatments have recently received increased interest in the counseling literature. Nevertheless, a great deal of ambiguity exists regarding the structure and substance of these treatments. A classification system is proposed that descriptively orders different types of brief treatments. This system is used to compare and contrast conceptually planned models of short-term therapy. Research and practice implications for counseling psychologists are discussed.
