Abstract
John D. Krumboltz continues to contribute to the field of counseling psychology, including the subspecialty of career counseling, after five decades of professional experience. Inspired by B. F. Skinner, John operationalized a behavioral approach to counseling. After 4 years at Michigan State University, where he initiated research on programmed instruction, he moved to Stanford University to help establish a program of research in counseling and to build a counseling psychology doctoral program that implemented the scientist-practitioner model. His major objective in life continues to be making counseling interventions useful in everyday life.
