Abstract
New approaches to the problem of dead-beat control in sampled-data systems, devised by the author for undergraduate instruction, are presented. Cascade control is discussed first; novel methods of computing control and output sequences in response to a step input are developed; and the problem of stability is highlighted. Stability problems are then resolved using a controller based on the theory of Observers, A very brief history of dead-beat control is given, in order to clarify the origin of Kalman's algorithm.
