Abstract
Biochemical reactors pose special problems in that they are essentially concerned with living systems. The consequences of this is that the bio transformations are complex and require detailed consideration, especially since instabilities can easily occur if the concentration of species is not controlled carefully. A discussion of the issues is presented and the principal factors identified. This is then used as a basis for analysing the dynamic models suitable for state variable models for on-line computer control.
