Abstract

A numerical study of natural and forced convection inside an auditorium of the National University of Mexico was performed. Two-dimensional steady-state simulations of the heat transfer and fluid flow processes within a cross-section of the auditorium were carried out using a CFD program. The boundary conditions were varied to obtain Rayleigh numbers in the range 103 to 1.85 X 1010 for natural convection and Reynolds numbers of 10 3 to 105 for the forced convection flows. The κ-ε model of turbulence was employed to predict turbulent forced convection. The aim of the study was to determine the air flow patterns and temperature field and their effect on thermal comfort conditions inside the auditorium.
