Abstract
One of the unkindest blows of all has been the realization that modern societies, with their great wealth of material things, greater security for their citizens and many other benefits, have somehow failed to provide similar progress in other directions. Although it is possible that we are now more sensitive to disturbed or disturbing behaviour in our young population, a strong likelihood exists that behaviour problems are also increasing among the young, who appear, in many instances, to be impervious to the benefits which modern society has showered upon them.
