Abstract
An approximate theoretical analysis of the tension increase for nonflexible fibers and yams passing around a peg is presented, yielding a convenient, improved capstan equation. The formulas include the influence of fiber and yarn bending behavior on the tension increase, and they correct the capstan equation for outgoing tension T2 when the incoming tension T1 is zero. The formulas are especially useful for relatively rigid fibers and yams.
