Abstract
A low temperature preparatory process has been devised for cotton fabrics using persulfate activated hydrogen peroxide. Detailed laboratory experiments investigate the preparation process, which consists of treatment with hypochlorite of enzymatically desized fabric followed by combined scouring and bleaching by alkaline hydrogen peroxide activated with potassium persulfate. The peroxide treatment follows a pad- store-wash method, using a statistical plan for three variables: the concentrations of hydrogen peroxide and sodium hydroxide and the temperature of batching. A regression analysis of the data on whiteness and fluidity responses results in spatial diagrams for optimizing the concentrations of hydrogen peroxide and sodium hydroxide at 35 and 45 °C.
