Abstract
Mechanically-cleaned and/or washed cotton card sliver was processed into both ring- and open- end-spun yarn. Three yarn counts, two open-end and one ring, were spun. Ends-down were found to be low for a coarse count open-end yarn and high for a medium count. The ring-spun yarn ex hibited mixed ends-down results. Rotor residue was shown to significantly decrease, and yarn strength increased slightly with washing. Yarn evenness and elongation decreased somewhat with washing. For best spinning, a fiber lubricant must be used to assure satisfactory drafting.
