Abstract
The relation of the geometry to the physical properties of 32 experimental raschel fabrics was studied. These fabrics were knit of 36/2 combed cotton yarns with the ordinary stitch, straight chaining, and lay-in in the following combinations: straight chaining with lay-in; ordinary with lay-in ; two-bar Atlas with skip entry; two-bar jersey with skip entry; straight chaining with ordinary; eyelet mesh with irregular entry. The effect of distortion on dimensional change in laundering, relaxation to remove distortion in order to prevent dimensional change, and the elastic behavior of the various construc tions were given special attention, since these properties largely determine the usefulness of the fabrics for specific purposes.
