Abstract
Recent uncertainties in the supply of rabbit fur for felt hat manufacture have prompted inquiries regarding the use of other fibers for fur felts, and the felting charac teristics and histological structures of a number of possible alternatives have therefore been investigated. It is concluded that opossum, fox, and wallaby fur might be blended in considerable proportions with rabbit fur without seriously affecting the quality of the felt, and that crimpless (mutant) Merino wool might be used in small proportions.
