New Spindle Tip Reduces Spinning Yarn Tension and Tension-Related Ends Down

Abstract

A newly-developed spindle tip to control yarn tension was mounted on the top of a conventional ring-frame spindle. Yarn tension was measured with a transducer located between the front drafing rolls and the thread guide. Tensions and properties were compared between yarns spun with and without the spindle tip; comparison are presented for an entire bobbin fill and for spindle speeds from 10 000 to 14 600 rpm. Spindle tips with shanks of different diameters were studied. Yarn tension was recorded for several thread-guide positions. In all tests, use of the new spindle tip reduced yarn tension by 75 to 90% and improved yarn properties slightly.
