Abstract
Polyester yarns, viscose yarns, and yarns of varying blends of polyester and viscose fibers were spun on an air-vortex system. Fiber loss increased with the polyester content of the blend. It is postulated that static electrification rather than differences in fiber flexibility is the principal reason for increased fiber loss. However, segregation of components in the waste does depend on relative fiber flexibility. It is concluded that the air-vortex system is poorly qualified for processing blends, especially when different deniers of individual fibers are used.
