Abstract
In a service wear trial of shirts made from chemically modified cotton fabrics, the edge wear at the collar was found to bear good correlation with flex abrasion tests in warp and filling directions performed on BFT and Stoll testers as well as with fillingwise tearing strength. By contrast, these laboratory tests showed poor correlation with edge wear at the cuffs. The Stoll flat abrasion test, however, gave best correlation with cuff edge wear. Changes in the mechanical properties of chemically modified fabrics were examined in relation to more basic changes in the fibers.
