Abstract
Lactamide and N-methylollactamide have been used to modify conventional ethyleneurea-formaldehyde, prolylene urea-formaldehyde, dihydroxyethyleneurea-formaldehyde, and other resins. The effect of these modified resins is great est when they are used on 100% cotton fabrics. In general, while developing a desirable wash and wear rating, physical properties such as abrasion resitance, tensile strength and elongation are significantly increased. Lactamide also seems to have a definite favorable effect on the hand and on the bulkiness of the fabric. Lactamide modified resins have also been applied to cotton-polyester blends where they improve the resistance of the fabric to frosting as well as improving other properties.
