Abstract
The thermal stability, viscosity, and friction of a two-component model system consisting of a volatile lubricant, a polyoxyethylene fatty acid, and a non-volatile antistat, a phosphate ester of polyoxyethylene aryl phenol, were studied over the entire concentration range. Viscosities covering the range from 56 cps to 5830 cps were Newtonian up to a shear rate of 102 sec-1. The frictional data over a wide speed range for nylon 66 and polyesler fibers exhibit a family of curves, which starts to diverge in the semiboundary region with the lowest friction for low viscosity component and the highest friction for the high viscosity component. Plots of friction vs logarithm of lubricant viscosity are linear.
