Abstract
It is shown by means of a casting technique, and subsequent microscopic examination of the fibre in situ and after removal from the cast, that many of the familiar markings exhibited by ramie are actually fissures.Partial explanation of the known lack of resistance to bending and torsion displayed by the fibre is offered, and certain details of technique of general interest in fibre microscopy are described.
