Abstract
An objective method for determining fiber irregularities is suggested wherein it is recog nized that there are many instances of crimpiness which cannot be defined in terms of frequency and amplitude measurements. An attempt was made to arrive at a simple correlation between roving diameters and single-fiber properties based on a geometric analysis of a roving. An empirical expression is presented which to a fair degree allows the prediction of equilibrium roving diameters from measurement of the properties of single fibers. A laboratory technique for studying the bulking capacity of wools is presented which is useful possibly as an objective technique for evaluating what potentially is of greater technical significance than crimp—namely, the bulking tendencies of irregularly shaped fibers.
