Abstract
The coefficient of friction between jute fiber pads has been measured after treatment with jute batching oil, water, and oil-water emulsion. The variation of friction with moisture regain, in the presence of oil or without it, has been studied and explained in terms of molecular bonding and factors influencing the area of real contact. The lubricating action of oil is seen only when the fiber is very rough or when its regain value is above 35% to 40%; otherwise batching oil increases friction.
