Abstract
Comparison is made of the characteristics of two open-end polyester-viscose. (50/50) yarns spun by processes that, except for the type of opening roller in the spinning unit, are similar. Type OK-36 opening roller, adequate for viscose, and type OK-37, adequate for polyester (machine BD200), were tested. It is shown that, for yarns of a high linear density, the type of opening roller does not affect yarn characters in an important manner, but when yarn linear density decreases, better results are found with the opening roller that, because of its characteristics, ensures a smooth operation on the fiber (in this case, type OK-37 adequate for man-made fibers).
