Abstract

An N-alkoxymethyl-N'-(1,1-dihydroperfluoroalkyl)urea is applied to cotton fabric with an acid catalyst to impart high oil repellency and moderate water repellency which are durable to home laundering. The finish is believed to be based on the formation of a highly insoluble fluorinated bis-urea. Stain repellency and release properties, judged with several common stains, were good, except with dirty motor oil. Oily soil re deposition was intermediate between older and newer types of commercial fluorochemical finishes.
