Abstract
Experimental studies of a technique for improved removal of particulate matter from gas streams by electrical stimulation of fabric filtration (ESFF) are described. Experiments with commercial fabrics show that ESFF can give significant improvements in capture efficiency in the submicron particle size range. Substantial lowering of the pressure drop was also observed. The technique thus promises to be a cost-effective route to more efficient utilization of baghouse equipment. For low-weight fabrics and dilute aerosols some dependence of ESFF on fiber geometry was observed. However, these interactions between geometric and electrical effects are diminished for commercial-weight fabrics and effectively vanish in the presence of a dust cake.
