Abstract
Raw cotton fiber in the form of card sliver was treated in an evacuated oven with the vapor of ethylenimine. The ethylenimine polymerized in or on the fiber and enhanced its ability to be dyed with acid dyes, but apparently there was little true chemical combination between the imine and the cellulose. Fiber treated in this way, along with appropriate controls, was con verted into fabric which was evaluated by various test methods. The results show that cotton may be treated with ethylenimine without adverse effect on the fabric made from it, but, aside from changed dyeing characteristics, no outstanding property has yet been noted for ethylenimine-treated cotton.
