Abstract
The derivation of families of color and weave effects from a family of weaves is analyzed. All conceivable color and weave families derived from two-color yarn se quences over one weave repeat are identified for repeat sizes up to 4 X 4. The numbers of effect families realizable with individual weave families vary greatly, and tend to be fewer with the more symmetrical weaves. The fewest effect families occur with the 2/2 twill weave family, and all are illustrated. Also examined for each effect family are the number of weave families with which it is realizable, compatible pairs of yarn color sequences, and corresponding conditional weave diagrams. Families of effects not real izable for any combination of weave and yarn color sequences are identified. Effect diagrams without rows or columns all of one color are shown to be identical to weave diagrams for stacks of unconnected fabrics. Effects with yarn color sequences over several weave repeats are mosaics of those with sequences over one repeat; their numbers are given for 2 × 2 and 3 × 3 weave families.
