Abstract
Torsional fatigue properties of textile fibers subjected to low cyclic torsional strain amplitudes are sensitive to the molecular structure and orientation. Multi-stage in strumentation capable of generating continuous oscillatory torsional strains and mon itoring times to failure is described. Examples are presented of fiber surface and internal morphologies of cotton, acrylic, and Kevlar® fibers caused by torsional fatigue at low strain amplitudes.
