Abstract
Seven Remazol dyes, which bear the reactive substituent, —SO2CH2CH2OSO3Na, have been converted into related compounds with —SO2CH2CH2SSO3Na substituents, referred to hereafter as Buntazol dyes. When applied to wool from boiling dyebaths acidified with sulfuric acid, the Buntazol dyes give dyeings of slightly better washfastness than the corresponding Remazols, which undergo covalent reaction with the fiber to a lesser extent. Buntazol and Remazol dyes, applied from dyebaths acidified with acetic acid, give dyeings of similar washfastness, despite the slightly greater degree of covalent reaction observed for most of the Remazol dyes; the two types differ mainly with respect to dyeing rate, Buntazol dyes being exhausted more rapidly than the corresponding Remazol dyes, although giving dyeings of similar levelness.
