Abstract
Seventy-five fabrics of a variety of constructions have been subjectively evaluated for wrinkling performance after deformation in the Celanese wrinkle tester. Their mechani cal behavior is determined in buckling and in-plane shearing experiments. It is shown that the wrinkling performance is correlateable with the energy (per unit thickness) to produce a specific bending deformation and the rate of recovery from it. Further, it is shown that the extent of wrinkling can be significantly modified by the magnitude of the frictional restraints at the yarn crossover points. This quantity is estimated in the shearing experiment.
