Abstract

The detergency rate of particulate soil depends on the location of the soil particle and its adhesion to the fiber surface. The strength of the adhesive bond depends on the attractive (mainly Van der Waals') forces and the contact area between soil and fiber. The amount (% owf) of particulate soil retained after washing cu depends on soiling conditions as well/as washing conditions, and also on the nature of soil and fiber and the construction of the fabric. where kr is the retention coefficient, u is the rotational speed (rpm) of the soiling device (Accelerutor), indicating the energy input per units soiling time, s is the amount of soil contacted with the fiber (% owf), and tr is the soiling time (min). Mechanical work performed during soiling affects soil remaining after washing more than it affects the amount of soil deposited on the fibers during soiling cs. As an approximation,? where kx is the soiling coefficients.
