Abstract
Moisture considerably improves the performance of cotton yarn sized with a starch-based sizing recipe. Higher moisture increases yarn elongation but reduces modulus, flexural rigidity, and elastic recovery. Increased hairiness of the sized yarn caused by loom action is minimum under higher moisture conditions. The moisture in the sized yarn affects yarn performance mainly because of the change in the size film and adhesion properties of the size.
