Abstract
Further studies on the hairiness of cotton yarns with particular reference to the influence of processing factors such as spinning draft, spindle speeds, traveller weights, yarn tensions, etc. are described in this paper. The influence on yarn hairiness of operations affecting the degree of parallelization and short fiber content in slivers is discussed. The hairiness of yarns spun from blends of cotton of differing fiber prop erties and from blends of cotton with staple fiber is also investigated. The results show that yarn hairiness is significantly influenced not only by spinning factors and processing techniques but also by the short fiber content and fiber arrangement in slivers and rovings before spinning. Control of fibers in the drafting field by effective use of guides or condensers is shown to reduce the hairiness of cotton yarns.
