Abstract
The effects of a double-tailed surfactant, didodecyldimethylammonium bromide (DDDMAB), on disperse dyeing of acetate fibers with 1,4-diaminoanthraquinone (1,4- DAA) are investigated at 60, 70, and 80°C. From dyeing rate curves and dyeing iso therms, DDDMAB makes it possible to reduce the dyeing temperature to 60°C. The evidence for vesicle formation of DDDMAB containing 1,4-DAA is obtained by trans mission electron microscopy and dynamic laser light scattering. In addition, DDDMAB strongly adsorbs on acetate fibers. It is likely that the enhanced dyeing properties in dye/DDDMAB dispersion are due to a concentrated dye layer on the fiber surface formed by the strong interaction of DDDMAB and acetate fibers.
