Abstract
Using an approach giving yarn tension as a function of extension, which was de veloped in an earlier publication, formulas are derived for load, extension, and initial specific modulus of an ideal twisted multifilament yarn in terms of the properties of the component filaments. Experimental data on a few twisted multifilament yarn assemblies agree better with the predictions of these formulas than those reported earlier in the literature.
