Abstract
The surface features of jute fiber were studied after various degrees of delignification and bleaching treatments. Surface features progressively change with gradual removal of lignin, leading to the "cottonization" of jute fiber at 93% delignification. Bleaching with peroxide or bleaching powder causes better cleaning and separation of ultimates. Degradation or damage of fibers or cells occurs when the chlorine used is nearly neutral or acidic.
