Abstract
Results of measurements of the thermal conductivity of a sample of twelve layers of standard underwear material (50% wool, 50% cotton) are presented. Temperature was varied from about 65° to ahout 135° F. pressure (air) was varied from less than 0.1 mm Hg to atmospheric, and sample density was varied from about 14 to about 20 lb/ft3. Some measurements were made with the air removed from the sample chamber and water introduced. Measurements were also made with the air in the sample chamber replaced by helium or by Freon-12 (CCl 2F2). All measurements were made on the same sample, under carefully controlled conditions. Therefore these data should have greater validity than results obtained in different apparatuses under varying conditions. The reported values are believed tc be accurate to ± 2%.
