Abstract
A survey of educators working in secure juvenile detention institutions was conducted to determine their inservice training needs. These educators were also questioned concerning their perceptions of the adequacy of preservice training for educators in secure juvenile institutions. There were 120 returned surveys that indicated strong inservice training needs in the areas of management of violent and aggressive behavior, affective education, counseling, and knowledge about behaviorally disordered youth. These educators also indicated dissatisfaction with the adequacy of their undergraduate programs and were strongly in favor of a special training program for teachers going into corrections education.
