Abstract

This paper conducts a systematic literature review through human reliability studies in maritime and offshore industries particularly. The review deeply focussed on the number of 219 featured studies. Among them, 25 special papers were reviewed in detail to have a closer insight into the maritime offshore domain. The proposed maritime HRA concepts and methodologies in the past studies have been inspected and presented with various statistical data. Clustering the existing progress in the literature and industry levels, the effects of emerging industrial developments on human reliability investigations are extensively discussed. Considering the future maritime initiatives (i.e. MASS Code, SDGs, Maritime & Offshore Digitalisation, SkillsFuture, etc.), the paper introduced a new R&D concept entitled Maritime & Offshore Human Reliability Research 2.0 (MOHR 2.0). The MOHR 2.0 is clarified the new contributing dimensions to redefine the tasks and operating environment to conduct next-generation human reliability analysis. Particularly, an application protocol is provided to extend the studies towards offshore operations. Consequently, this study contributes to understanding the potential of existing human reliability studies in maritime and offshore operations while further insights, opportunities, and challenges are highlighted.
