Modeling of crack nucleation in covering on an elastic base

Abstract

Mathematical description and analysis of cracking in the covering coupled with the base made of another elastic material is carried out. It is assumed that in accordance with loading in the covering there will appear prefracture zones that are modeled as the areas of the weakened interparticle bonds in the material. In prefracture zones (layers of overstressed material), the covering’s material is deformed beyond the limit of elasticity. It is assumed that in the course of loading, the covering’s section has an arbitrary number of rectilinear prefracture zones. The definition of unknown parameters characterizing the cracking is reduced to the solution of the system of singular integral equations. The condition determining the limiting value of the external load under which cracks occur is found.
