Abstract
A surface activated crumb rubber named Surcrums has shown many advantages as a compounding ingredient. These include a reduced dieswell after extrusion, improved air-venting during vulcanization, less effect on physical and dynamic properties of the finished product (in comparison to that of untreated granulate) and a reduction of total compound cost. As Surcrum contains a curing system, products such as conveyer belts, mats, etc., may be produced from 100% Surcrum. The potential benefits are an easier way of processing and reduced energy and equipment costs because compounding or calendering are not necessary. Surcrum is suitable for continuous curing processes with the option, that profiled and multiple-ply articles can be produced.
