Influence of Polyfunctional Monomers and Fillers on Radiation Vulcanization of Ethylene-Propylene Diene Rubber

Abstract

Radiation vulcanization of raw EPDM in the presence of polyfunctional monomers; diallylamine, diallylsulphide, ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, NN-methylene bis-acrylamide, triallyl cyanurate, trimethyloyl propane trimethacrylate and tetramethylol methane tetraacrylate has been carried out. The efficiency of the monomers studied in enhancing the crosslinking and the change in crosslinking density has been followed up by measurement of physical and mechanical properties of the vulcanized rubber. Also, the dependence of the properties of the loaded EPDM, with white and black fillers, on the type of filler has been examined.
