Abstract
Various plastics and elastomers were evaluated for smoke density, using the gravimetric method of the Arapahoe smoke chamber and the optical methods of the Rohm and Haas XP-2 and the NBS-Aminco smoke chambers. Some materials tend to produce dense smoke under any test conditions, while others produce relatively little smoke under any test conditions. The smoke from some materials is strongly affected by the test conditions used.
