Abstract
The purpose of the research was to survey current opinions regarding the importance of choro courses in the music curriculum of Brazilian universities and determine which content would best meet the needs of music teaching and learning situations in Brazilian universities. The major findings of the study included the following: 1. Respondents generally were supportive of the inclusion of choro courses in Brazilian university music curricula. 2. Based on data from respondents, important choro experiences were identified and developed as proposed courses: (a) choro history and literature, (b) choro performance, solo and ensemble, and (c) choro theory and improvisation.
