Abstract
The resource room concept is commonly used to provide special education services to handicapped students. It has been difficult for school districts to reconcile the mechanics of such a classroom with departmentalization at the secondary level. Decreased funding and increased caseloads have resulted in the need for special educators to manage the prescriptive plans of each student, and to provide tutorial support for regular education classes. “The System”, as proposed in this article, provides a management plan that is expedient for the special education teacher to use with students of varying needs. It incorporates a clinical teaching model, task analysis, and the use of management objectives to provide individualized services to secondary handicapped students scheduled into a special group setting.
