Abstract
This article reviews the adaptability of the IEP process to a computerized format Following a discussion of studies that support the use of computer-managed IEPs and potential deterrents to using this software application, software evaluation criteria are summarized. For administrators who are considering computerized IEPs, a checklist/rating scale is presented. The proposed evaluation form focuses on (a) the extent to which software includes all elements of an IEP and (b) the technological sophistication and user friendliness of the software. The evaluation form is explained and applied to two nationally advertised software programs: the Talley Goals and Objectives Writer (1986), a software program which is related to the Brigance Comprehensive Diagnostic Inventory of Basic Skills (Brigance, 1977), and IEPs Unlimited (Goode, 1985).
