Abstract
The propagation of waves resulting from the sudden application of a force to the surface of a cylindrical cavity in an infinite fibre reinforced solid is considered. The fibres are assumed to be circumferential to the cavity and uniformly distributed so that the material may be regarded as a highly anisotropic homogeneous elastic solid. The stress distribution within the solid is determined for certain values of the elastic constants. Numerical results are presented in graphical form.
