Abstract
It is both an honour and a pleasure to be asked to look again at diabetic renal disease 10 years after the review below, published in 2002 in the 50th year of the reign of Elizabeth II as Queen. I have altered the original text only here and there where infelicities or inaccuracies crept in, and I have then commented on this now “historic” text in a short addendum looking at the past decade, and bringing the story up to the Queen’s 60th jubilee. This article is an updated version of ‘Fifty years of established diabetic nephropathy — a personal perspective’ by J Stewart Cameron, published in, Br J Diabetes Vasc Dis 2003;3:8-16, © 2003.
