Humanitarian Attitudes and Support of Government Responsibility for Social Welfare

Abstract

This article examines humanitarian attitudes and the individualistcollectivist orientation of graduates of various social work study programs of a major university in Hong Kong and some major universities and colleges in China. Research shows that the respondents have a positive regard for humanitarian issues, related to the perception of social welfare as a government responsibility. Hong Kong graduates are more humanistic and more collectivist in orientation than their PRC counterparts. Some responses re.ect an emphasis on self-reliance and adherence to this as a means of achieving human dignity.
