Abstract
This article examines the effects of family violence on elderly adult survivors, the vast majority of whom are women. Two timeframes are considered: violence experienced early in life and elder abuse. A review of the literature on these and related topics reveals a conceptual framework for explaining the effects. Implications for practice are discussed along with case studies to illustrate key constructs.
